Peer Advisors

Peer Advisor Group 2012-2013

PEER ADVISORS 2013-2014

Who are Peer Advisors?

  • Peer Advisors are students who participated in the LEAP experience so successfully as first year student that we hired them to come back as role models, liaisons and helpers.
  • Each LEAP section has a Peer Advisor, and they are in the class every day, along with the students. They can answer students’ questions about class content as well as questions about how to navigate the University.
  • To prepare for their responsibilities, Peer Advisors take an online summer class and participate in a two-day workshop just before classes begin.
  • They meet as a cohort twice a month for the school year, and take on a committee assignment to help the LEAP program.
  • They can get credit for this experience by enrolling in LEAP 2002. They can also sign up for LEAP 2003, which is a service learning add-on.
  • Peer Advisors are the leaders of the LEAP program, and being able to include the position on a resume is a plus.
  • Peer Advisors often go on to other leadership and service positions on campus.

Peer Advisor Mission Statement 2013-2014

Being Peer Advisors provides the opportunity to deliver excellence, accessibility, support, and opportunity to incoming students in the LEAP program. As Peer Advisors it is our responsibility to connect students to facilities on and off campus that will enrich their education and motivate them to think outside the box. Peer advisors strive to create an open environment where everyone’s ideas are heard and valued, to help students learn from the environment around them, as well as to be an approachable liaison between professors and students. Through honest, open and clear communication we intend to not only grow as a program, but as a community as well.
